LFSC Newest Board Members and Bios

Lassen Fire Safe Council is so pleased to announce the addition of our newest Board Member, Danny Cluck, now retired from the U.S. Forest Service. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Danny through our grant projects and we have tapped into his expertise to do a presentation at our General Meeting on the dreaded bark beetle that is attacking our forests. He knowledge and expertise will be a great resource and asset to our Board and to our staff. He is a welcome addition to our LFSC Board.
We asked Danny to introduce himself to our community and here’s what he had to say!
I am a former Forest Entomologist (US Forest Service) and forest health specialist with over 30 years of research and management experience in California. My primary role was surveying and monitoring forest conditions, including the impacts of fire, bark beetles and forest pathogens, and developing management strategies to increase forest resiliency. I have worked extensively with forest land managers from multiple agencies and private industry to identify forest health risks and increase the scale and efficacy of thinning and fuels treatments in different forest ecosystems.
During my career, I worked on many projects in northeastern California that improved forest health and protected communities. I also experienced the numerous wildfires in our area that have devastated thousands of acres of forest and resulted in the loss of life and property. This has only highlighted the urgency for more action to protect our properties and increase the resiliency of our forested landscapes. I look forward to continuing that mission with the Lassen Fire Safe Council.

Lassen Fire Safe Council is pleased to announce that Deb Bumpus, retired Lassen National Forest Supervisor, has joined the LFSC Board of Directors. For those of you unfamiliar with Deb's long career, it began in 1991, as a Wildlife Biologist in the Plumas National Forest and spanned various roles across several national forests, including key positions such as Regional Assistant Threatened and Endangered Species Program Manager and Ecosystem Staff Office. Deb served as Forest Supervisor of Lassen National Forest since August 2019, leading significant initiatives like the growth of Lassen partners, vegetation and fuels reduction projects, and a long-term management agreement with Lassen College’s Foundation for campgrounds at Eagle Lake. She has spent her career dedicated to public service and to building relationships with local communities, tribal neighbors, and various partners. LFSC has worked with Deb in her role at Lassen National Forest and we value the experience, knowledge, and unique perspective she brings to our Board. When asked why she wants to serve she said "I'm excited and looking forward to working with the Lassen Fire Safe Council in this new role. My reasons for involvement are to continue to work with the Council on fuels work within the County and with our neighbors. The Council has an excellent reputation and is in a good position to continue this good work." Deb has also expressed an interest in assisting the Council in furthering its efforts with the important work of community engagement and education. Please help us welcome Deb to our LFSC Board!

A resident of Shasta County for over 25 years, Yvonne is excited to bring her passion and interests to her new role at LFSC. Her career with State Government Information Technology has prepared her with highly analytical and effective communication skills.
Having experienced wildfires firsthand, Yvonne feels strongly about California’s fire safety. She is committed to being involved in wildfire preparedness and making a difference in communities.

Mr. Crabtree is a retired Forest Supervisor, El Dorado National Forest, completing a career that spanned 50 years. He has decades of experience in the Forest Service, working also in both Plumas and Modoc National Forests. He has an extensive knowledge of prescribed fire, wildfire, and silviculture. “I have worked on all adjacent forests and feel an affinity for this landscape.” He’s the owner of Crabtree Forestry Consulting, LLC, and is currently consulting with Golden State Natural Resources. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter since 2004, including wildland firefighting, and I am passionate about fire protection/fire safety. I’m also a Fire & Life Safety Inspector for Fall River Valley Fire District.
I am currently a Board member of the Day Lassen Bench Fire Safe Council and I am excited to work with LFSC and their partners to reduce fuels, create safer communities, and educate the public about fire safety and what everyone can do to help harden their homes and properties.
As General Contractor, I try to keep up with current building standards and how to build homes, especially those built in the WUI, to be more fire resistant.
