Community Fund

As we identify new initiatives to fund, we will update our communities with the information. We welcome input on potential projects or identifying needs from all of our 12 Firewise communities, our 15 VFD’s whose service area includes Lassen County, and from our Lassen County residents. Please bring us your projects or ideas and let’s see what we can do. Our funding is limited, and the needs are great, but together we can make a difference!
About LFSC Community Fund
The Lassen Fire Safe Council Inc. established a permanent Community Fund committee in December 2023. The heart and soul of the committee’s work is dedicated to better protecting the residents of Lassen County in areas of concern not covered under our grant work. The team focuses on the communities’ needs commensurate with our mission to preserve Northern California’s natural and man-made resources by working with agencies and private partners to ensure our communities homes, properties and neighborhoods are safe from the effects of wildfires.
Led, by Chevi Amrein, the committee provides valuable insights and recommendations to the LFSC Board of Directors for informed decision-making on spending wisely in the communities. We want to partner with the Firewise Communities, Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) and the citizens in Lassen County to provide financial help for community based projects that support wildfire recovery, resiliency projects, firefighter and community preparedness, training, and mitigation efforts.
This funding has come from the sale equipment no longer utilized, from small donations, and from funding as a result of the 2021 Dixie Fire PG&E Settlement. Part of that settlement agreement with the counties’ District Attorneys was that PG&E pay $29.5 million in good faith contributions to county non-profits in Lassen, Plumas, Tehama, Shasta, and Butte counties. Non-profits who helped during the fire, helped with recovery from the fire, or will help prevent the next fire were gifted these funds. LFSC was one of the non-profit recipients in Lassen county gifted funds. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE SETTLEMENT ENSURES NONE OF THIS MONEY SHALL BE RECOVERABLE BY PG&E IN CUSTOMER RATES.
While these PG&E Settlement funds ensure LFSC has the financial stability to continue reducing the risks from wildfires, the Board has long favored setting aside a portion of those funds to support community projects that help to strengthen and protect our communities from wildfires. Now that we are on our second year, we are very excited to see where this leads!
